DISCLAIMER

Lets start with disclaimer. Anything you’re about to read in this blog didn’t come from me. What? Seriously have I lost my mind? Nope. I just have to say that the thoughts and words that depart the station of my mind in transit to my fingers were either read, seen or heard along life’s highway.

ROOFTOP VIEW

Having just changed lodging for the final 6 weeks of our winter hiatus, we opted for a studio apartment on the roof, featuring roof top views. Now that sounds romantic, and is, as the full moon rises over the Sierra Madres. In the daylight the view gleaned from the pinnacle, is actually…wait for it…wait for it…a view of many roofs. Thus, a rooftop view.

KEEPING AGREEMENTS

Isn’t it much easier just to keep the agreements you want to keep? Like its okay if I break my agreement with you, but don’t break your agreement with me. Where’s the equity in that? So what did I do? I made an agreement and broke it. Then realized my word, my integrity, my character was on the line. I had agreed to rent this rooftop studio for 6 weeks. Then a few days later, informed the owner I had changed my mind and only wanted it for 4 weeks. Now in my mind, that was perfectly acceptable. What I failed to do was confirm the change would be acceptable to the owner. As it turned out, the shorter stay was not acceptable, and digested that I “had to own it”. My Coach said “Your character is who you are when no one else is looking”. Like tossing trash into the receptacle and missing. Do you keep walking…or stop and pick it up. I saw the following on a trash can – ”Do the Right Thing”.

The old town of San Sebastion del Oeste

San Sebastián was founded as a mining town in 1605, during the early Spanish colonial Viceroyalty of New Spain period. Gold, silver and lead were mined in the area.

Many structures in the city and municipality were built of cut stone and/or adobe in the 19th and earlier centuries, and remain unchanged.  And along one of the cobblestone streets we found a bakery operated by a Mother and Son. The Mom was very proud of the products and wanted to show us everything they made.

San Sebastián del Oeste is a designated Pueblo Mágico, one of the towns maintaining their historical character and promoted by the federal government as tourism destinations.

YOUR INTELLECTUAL CAPITAL

My Coach said, “do you know the value of your intellectual capital”? What is “Intellectual Capital”? Coach defined it as everything we’ve ever done or experienced in our lifetimes. Like the rings of a tree. All the past history we’ve collected, the past experiences, education, travel, relationships, encounters, employment, training. If you’re an older tree like I am, you have amassed a fortune of intellectual capital. This is something that can’t be bought or achieved over night. This takes years, and no ones capital is exactly alike. You’ve probably heard the phrase – a wealth of life experience. From the time you were born, you could bullet point the happenings through your 20’s, 30’s, etc to where you are now. Do that. Take a “Look Back”. Rejoice. You’ve come a long way baby.

Thats a wrap for this week. Time to go stroll the beach, collect a few shells, and call it good for another day on the Pacific coast in Mexico. Thanks for allowing me to be part of your intellectual capital. Yogi.
